LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators are small and offer a lot of space. They're also priced more affordably than many standard-depth French door fridges and can eliminate the need for a separate smaller under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView Counter-Depth Refrigerator (LMWC23626S), which offers the capacity of a standard refrigerator with a sleek and modern design, isn't an exception. It also has an internal dispenser that provides easy access to drinking water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. This LG refrigerator stood out during our tests. It provides plenty of space to feed a family, but we noticed a few unsettling issues. First, the freezer drawers don't stay at the temperature we'd like. The temperature of the middle drawer climbed to 41° during our highest use test, which is enough to freeze ice cream and other frozen food items. The temperature in the rest of the freezer remained at around 36 degrees.
The refrigerator doors also have sunken handles that make it difficult for those with smaller hands to close. This may seem minor however we prefer front-mounted handles on refrigerators, as they are easier to open and close.
This fridge is expensive but it's worth it for anyone who wants an elegant appearance in their kitchen. This refrigerator is recommended for those looking to upgrade their current fridge or are building new homes and want a seamless look for their kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Samsung's newest counter-depth French-door fridge, the RF23M8090SG price tag is $4200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well during our cooling test, however we aren't fans of the gimmicky handles or the plastic crisper bins.
One thing that distinguishes the RF23M8090SG apart is the Bespoke line which lets you personalize your fridge using removable color panels which can be swapped whenever you get tired of the ones you have currently. There are 11 color options including soft pastels, bolder hues and four metallic finishes. Some of the panels can be customized with text or photos which makes the fridge a personal feature that can be matched to your tie-dye Crocs, Rick Owens dress or Andy Warhol banana neon sign.
You can even alter the color of the refrigerator's LED lighting, which is a nice touch. The interior of the refrigerator is finished in a way that reduces smudges and makes cleaning a breeze. The RF23M8090SG's only real knocks are its slightly cramped beverage center and an incline to learn curve in opening the door-in-door feature that houses a water pitcher and dispenser. You need to feel for the lever on the underside of the door about halfway down. Once you find it the second door opens inside the fridge, which houses the docking station for the pitcher as well as the water dispenser.
The 6.8 cubic-foot freezer compartment is large enough to hold a lot of frozen food items, and it features an amazing slide-out drawer system that allows you to get the food you're searching for without opening the whole compartment. There's also a butter-bin-style compartment in the freezer for easy storage of small items as well as a large capacity drawer which can store larger frozen items. The drawer can be locked by using a password to ensure that anyone who isn't a good fit is kept out. It also has a handy LED to help you see what's inside at a glance. The freezer's also able to track energy use and help you reduce your energy consumption with the smart-enabled SmartThings Energy mode.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
French door refrigerators are an excellent addition to any kitchen. They look neat and work well in any size of room. Counter-depth refrigerators are a great option for those who want this design, but without the added height. This model from Frigidaire that we've extensively tested and has received an above average rating in our reviews due to its reasonable price and thoughtful features like an adjustable temperature drawer.
However, it also has a couple of nagging issues. Our test data shows that the FGHB2866PF gets warm quite some in the freezer, and can get uncomfortably warm in the fridge's interior shelves. Our heat maps show how temperature fluctuates minute-by-minute. The butter bin in the orange section at the top right is particularly warm during our testing period. This might not seem too awful at first glance but it's a sign that the fridge is spending a significant portion of its time above 33 degrees.
It's worth mentioning that this model isn't Energy Star certified, which could be a major consideration for certain buyers. The main issue is that this fridge isn't the best. It's lacking advanced features and is made of a slender, flimsy material, making it difficult to recommend it over better options at this price point.
In many ways, the Frigidaire is a stainless-steel model of fridge you might see at your local appliances store. It's a good choice, with a brushed finish that looks good and is impervious to smudges, but it does not make a lot of an effort to set itself apart from competitors with more features and less expensive.
Still, if you're shopping for a low-cost counter-depth French door refrigerator and don't have the budget to splash out on our top selections, then the FGHC2331PF is worth considering. It has enough storage space for many families, and does a decent job keeping food fresh. Even even if it's not an energy efficient model, it's considerably less expensive than our top-rated models.
